Absence-Illness-Injury

In the interest of your child's health and the health of other children, please observe the following:

1.   If your child has a fever of 100º F or above, he or she must be kept home for 24 hours after the fever has subsided (without the use of medications like Tylenol/ Ibuprofen).

2.  Children must be kept home with any contagious symptoms for 24 hours after symptoms have subsided.   This includes vomiting and/or diarrhea.

3.  If Antibiotics have been prescribed, your child should stay home for 24 hours after the FIRST dose of antibiotics has been given.

4.  If your child is absent from school or will be tardy, please call the Nurse’s absentee voicemail box by 9:00am at 860-870-6755 and press option 1.  Please be clear in stating your name, your child’s name, teacher, and reason for absence or tardiness.  Please be specific when reporting illness as we monitor illness trends.

If an absence or tardiness has not been reported to the nurse, you will receive an automated call from the office.   If you send a note or email to the teacher, please also notify the nurse’s office, as we are responsible for attendance.

Absence, tardy, and early dismissal notes from doctors (medical/ dental appointments, etc) are always accepted as medical excuses and are noted in PowerSchool.

*Please carefully review the attendance policy on pg. 5 of the Student Handbook.*

Guidelines for excused and unexcused absences can be found on the State Department of Education website at www.portal.ct.gov   (search: absences)

5.  It is felt that any child well enough to come to school is well enough to participate in all activities, including recess and physical education. Any exceptions from this rule must be accompanied by a note signed by a physician.

6.  Flu season: We will be following the CDC guidelines during the flu season.

7.  Please dress your child warmly with boots, hats, coats, gloves, and sweaters on chilly days.  There will be outdoor recess when the temperature and wind chill are 20 degrees and above.

Illness and/or Injury:

When a child becomes ill, you will be asked to bring him/her home.  In case of injuries, we may need to contact you.  It is necessary that the school always have a phone number – yours and two emergency numbers – that may be reached at all times.  Parents or designee must provide transportation.  Please notify the school when any emergency contact information changes during the school year, such as a new phone number, new job, etc.   New emergency forms go home at the beginning of each school year.
