Our School Day

Each day our class begins with an morning meeting.  This provides our class with a sense of community as we explore the upcoming day's activities together.  We explore the calendar, weather, and a brief daily message along with the Pledge of Allegiance, and a group greeting.  The children have opportunities to share personal experiences with the class during this time as well.

Shared reading activities are a central part of our kindergarten day.  Together the class explores literature pieces related to our current theme of study.  Concepts of print are integrated as we look for predictable events and patterns in the text.

Our literacy block includes small group activities that are appropriate for meeting children's individual needs.  These activities may include alphabet games, phonemic awareness, writing and beginning reading experiences.

Our Writers' Workshop offers daily opportunities for children to be active participants in the writing process.  They create their own writing pieces, including narrative, informational, and opinion writing.

During activity center time, children choose various areas in the classroom to explore with their peers.  Some of these areas include: blocks, kitchen, dollhouse, play-doh, writing, computer, oral language, and math and science manipulative areas.

Lunch is held daily at 12:15 and recess follows at 12:45

Each day the children also attend a "special" area class. These classes include library, art, music, and P.E.
